Using SAS for Nonparametric Statistics

چکیده

Definition A nonparametric procedure is a statistical procedure that has certain desirable properties that hold under relatively mild assumptions regarding the underlying population(s) from which the data are obtained – Hollander and Wolfe. The definition is not only vague but it is also extremely inclusive. “Statistical procedure” can refer to a test or an estimator. There are a number of new methodologies that can be seen as nonparametric. This discussion will be limited to traditional rank based analyses. In this presentation we will exploit the idea that if the data are replaced by ranks then we can often apply the usual computations to the ranks and arrive at a test that is equivalent to an established nonparametric procedure.

Sample Size Determination for a Nonparametric Upper Tolerance Limit for any Order Statistic

A nonparametric upper tolerance limit (UTL) bounds a specified percentage of the population distribution with specified confidence. The most common UTL is based on the largest order statistic (the maximum) where the number of samples required for a given confidence and coverage is easily derived for an infinitely large population. However, for other order statistics such as the second largest, ...

A Macro for Calculating Summary Statistics on Left Censored Environmental Data using the Kaplan-Meier Method

Calculating summary statistics such as the mean, standard deviation, and an upper confidence limit on the mean is straightforward when the data values are known. However, environmental data often are reported from the analytical laboratory as left censored, meaning the actual concentration for a given contaminant was not detected above the method detection limit. Therefore, the true concentrati...

Calculating a Nonparametric Estimate and Confidence Interval Using SAS . Software

In clinical trials nonparametric analysis methods are sometimes used to assess the differences between treatment groups. Most people use either the NPAR1WAY procedure or the FREQ procedure to perform nonparametric analysis. However, no procedures currently exist within SAS software to produce a nonparametric estimate of the difference between treatment groups or a confidence interval to assess ...

Creating Clinical Trial Summary Tables Containing P-Values: A Practical Approach Using Standard SAS Macros

P-value is a key criterion for evaluating the effectiveness and safety of new drugs in clinical trials, particularly in comparative studies. However, p-values are generally not presented in data summary tables generated with SAS software, because of the complexity of incorporating p-values into a formatted table that contains summary statistics, such as mean, proportion, or standard deviation. ...

SUGI 27: SAS(r) Implementation of Nonparametric Smoothing and Lack-of-Fit Based on Smoothers

A user-friendly program in SAS r is proposed to perform many nonparametric smoothing and testing procedures. The nonparametric part of the program consists of resources already available on SAS and the testing part will consist of lack-of-fit tests based on smoothing ideas that will be continuously updated. Four main procedures are described for the testing part of the program: tests of a linea...
